HYDRO GUARD SHOWS WATER-REPELLENT EFFICACY & PERFORMANCE EVEN AFTER 11 YEARS

THE CHALLENGE

Preserving the aesthetic and structural integrity of the brick facades at the Etterstad West Housing complex, constructed in 1957, posed a significant challenge. Over time, natural weathering and environmental elements threatened to compromise the cleanliness, durability, and overall appearance of the 256 residential units. Traditional cleaning methods proved insufficient for long-term protection, necessitating a solution that would minimize future maintenance.

THE SOLUTION

Armus Hydro Guard, a water-repellent surface protection technology, was chosen to address these concerns. Its advanced formulation creates a near-surface barrier that effectively deflects water, preventing moisture infiltration and subsequent damage. Hydro Guard's ease of application through HVLP spraying made it a feasible option for treating the extensive facade area, exceeding 161,000 square feet.

IMPLEMENTATION

1. Façade was professionally power washed and cleaned to remove existing dirt and contaminants and allowed to dry. 

2. Hydro Guard was applied using an HVLP sprayer to ensure a uniform treatment over the entire brick façade, over 161,000 sq. ft.

11 YEARS POST-APPLICATION RESULTS & evaluation

More than a decade since its application in 2011, Hydro Guard continues to demonstrate its lasting efficacy. Recent visual inspection (photo below) in 2022 reveals a remarkably preserved aesthetic, devoid of visible staining or efflorescence.

The water-repellent barrier continues to function effectively, minimizing surface water adhesion and reducing the development of conditions conducive to biofilm and organic growth. This sustained performance translates to significantly reduced maintenance requirements for the client, exceeding initial expectations.
